French Bread/Pizza Dough

  • 1/2 cup hot tap water
  • 2 Tbsp yeast
  • 4 cups hot tap water
  • 2 Tbsp salt
  • 7-8 cups flour (can use half wheat and half white)

In a small bowl soften yeast in 1/2 cup water. In mixing bowl mix 4 cups hot tap water with salt and 4 cups flour. Mix in softened yeast mixture. Add flour a little at a time and knead in. Stop when you have a good bread dough consistency. Knead 5-5 minutes.

For French Bread: Shape into 2 long loaves and put on greased cookie sheets. With knife, make diagonal slashes across top. Raise for 30 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Butter tops.

For Pizza Dough: Grease 2 jelly roll pans. Sprinkle cornmeal over grease. Divide dough in half and spread out on pans to form crust. Let rest 10 minutes. Bake for 8 minutes at 400 degrees. Put toppings on and continue baking for 12-15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and brown.
